Axis + Upverter

Axis Does DIY Differently

Axis has a company goal to change the way we perceive DoItYourself (DIY) self-install household projects. Their products focus on empowering consumers to live smarter in their homes. Their aim is to enable you to take a project from start to finish in less than five minutes of work, without any specialized knowledge or tools. Their first products' focus is on window blinds because Axis believes that is an industry that has not seen enough innovation for a long time. To infuse excitement into an otherwise boring industry they have the Axis Duo, a telescopically extending easy install window blind and a new product that will automate any existing window blinds, the Axis Gear. The Axis Gear will also be easy to install, can be solar powered and can be controlled by your smartphone.

The blinds are just the beginning, but we’re looking to make and give you the products to automate anything in your home or environment. Portrait of Marc Bishara

Live Support Made Upverter Ideal for Axis' Small Team

When Axis needed EDA software to complete their designs, they needed to turn to a product with a palatable licensing model like Upverter. Marc Bishara, Product Development Engineer at Axis, tested EDA software products and ultimately decided on Upverter. What made Upverter stand out in his eyes and what made it ideal for a small company like Axis was the Live Support.

Sure you can Google [questions] with other EDA tools, but if you can have someone answer your question within minutes that's absolutely phenomenal.

Marc became familiar with Upverter’s award winning UI by following the provided tutorials and plans to ramp up a consultant on the same product. Axis plans to make use of Upverter’s built-in collaboration for increased productivity and to control the money they are spending on consultancy.

Upverter will make it very easy to integrate and work alongside the consultant. I can see the consultant's progress but also do some heavy lifting myself to control the amount of hours that the consultant has to work.

Upverter Went Above and Beyond for Axis

Upverter’s Live Support doesn’t just provide help with the product, Upverter support goes beyond the product helping new design engineers with questions about parts, layouts, and electronics design best practices. In addition to Live Support, Upverter provides a Design Review to help companies like Axis with small teams and limited expertise.

This was my first fully functional PCB, so from the start we don’t necessarily have the expertise to be 100% confident of the things that we’re doing. Getting a second set of eyes on the board, to see issues that would potentially mess up the board or impact our ability to run diagnostics on it after it was printed, was useful. The design review is great.
