Advancing Terahertz Technology

The National Institute of Standards and Technology exists to provide support and encouragement of the United States of America’s industry through the development of improved measurement techniques and standards. Our contact at this institute, Erich Grossman, has been decorated as a physicist for advancing the fields of millimeter-wave and terahertz radiometry, imaging, and spectroscopy. To realize his institute’s mission in his field, he has aided in designing and producing terahertz imagers for biochemical advancements and an ultra-wideband sub-millimeter-wave/terahertz detector array for use in contraband detection.

We’re always building new cameras, new test set-ups, we often build cameras and other detection devices directly from the chip level up. There are custom electronics that we build to interface between our custom detectors or detector arrays to commercial electronics. Portrait of Erich Grossman

A Cloud-Based Engineering Tool

Since Erich’s projects require hardware to be designed on an as-needed basis, Erich values tools that don’t require constant updating, configuring and maintenance. As such, Erich found Upverter while searching for cloud-based EDA tools, evaluated several and ultimately chose Upverter for its User Interface and for its Live Support.

We needed something that is simple, intuitive, doesn’t require any maintenance and is just there when you need it. It had to be intuitive, simple and not require any maintenance.

Upverter Goes Above and Beyond

Erich has valued Upverter’s commitment to providing exceptional customer service through its Live Support. He specifically mentioned how, with Upverter, we always provide an engineer who is knowledgeable with both the tool and has hardware design expertise. Erich contrasted that with traditional engineering software packages where finding the right person and getting in touch with them is extremely difficult and sometimes impossible.

In terms of getting emails and phone calls returned quickly by somebody who actually knows what they’re talking about, Upverter has been great in that respect.
