If you happen to find a DSI My Music Maker Keyboard kicking around in a bin somewhere, try to circuit bend it, and get tired of it... Get a few of these made and a few components and you should have everything you need to replace the guts in the thing! I'm working on a 3D printed case as well so the original toy isn't needed... but that's down the road. Untested as of 3/3/2015...
